bridge rockawaY AFFORDABLE HOUSING

brooklyn, new york

This affordable housing project, located in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn, is built over a street level light manufacturing space that fills the entire site. The second story courtyard is framed by two angled apartment blocks and has skylights set into the paving that light the work space below. A circular lawn with a wood deck dining area is located adjacent to the apartment building’s upper lobby. The courtyard slopes up, through a wooded area with trees grouped in triangular planters, to a higher terrace with a steel and mesh pergola. The pergola is designed to accommodate climbing plants providing a shady place for more seating. There is a green roof at the third level over the entry lobby.
